Well. That's a small story. I once had a gamemaster named David. David hates Christmas. So, every year he runs a one-off adventure. David asks you to bring all of your useless, no good mediocre characters from any game. He throws them all into one place (usually the mouth of a large lair) and tells you that your job is to slay the dragon. The Christmas Dragon.
You can't leave. You have to go inside in order to leave. Which means you will encounter the dragon. The dragon will kill you, so if you want to leave you have to fight the dragon. The group I was with this particular year had a lot of characters that met a very gruesome end. One of mine survived. Krager Falken who had been played in a Renaissance setting of RM 2nd Edition. By surviving the Christmas Dragon you were rewarded, although if you had actually killed the thing you got a better prize. I merely survived.
Krager Falken was awarded the prize of the Wandering Monk. I was told that this meant that I could play this character in any game in any setting and no one would question who I was, how I got there, or what I was doing. I just - fit in.
Since that time I have thought that that was an appropriate name for the various incarnations of the Wandering Monk that I have generated. These forums reflect that philosphy.
